The Bernardston Cultural Council is a local agency funded by the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
The town of Bernardston is currently seeking community members interested in serving on the Cultural Council (CC). There are at least two vacancies on the council that need to be filled.
The Bernardston CC is part of a grass-roots network of 329 local councils that serve every city and town in the state. The program is the largest, most decentralized one of its kind in the United States. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which then allocates funds to each local council.
The Bernardston CC is managed by volunteers from the community who have an interest in and support the arts, humanities and/or interpretive sciences. Members are appointed by town officials and serve for a term of three years. The Council funds cultural activities within the Bernardston community, including previous grants in support of events held at the Cushman Library, Bernardston Elementary school, Old Home Day in Cushman Park, Senior Center, and other places in and around town.
For more information on the MA LCC and to view sample position descriptions, please visit: http://www.mass-culture.org/council_basics.aspx or http://www.mass-culture.org/Bernardston
The Bernardston LCC generally only meets 2 to 4 times a year on weeknights. Anyone interested in serving on the council should contact the Bernardston Board of Selectmen at (413) 648 5401 or bos@townofbernardston.org.
